DELTAIC LANDSCAPE
The barrier islands of New Jersey are vulnerable to a constant process of erosion on the ocean side. This poses a challenge for the communities and habitats along the shore as sea level rise and storm surge threatens the islands. Over time, the islands will shrink and move inwards towards the shore.
This project protects the shore through seeding a network of growing islands, employing the natural process of accretion and sedimentation where tidal, river and wave forces collide. This landscape creates new possibilities for inhabitation along the shore, with areas for habitat, human occupation and recreation.
